For Grandparents

Making food fun can make eating more positive for picky eaters. Whether your child is a picky eater or not, all preschoolers like playful food!
Using cookie cutters for fruit and cheese, or maybe icecream cones for 'cups' are great ideas.

Creating 'silly sandwiches' is great fun. Look through the fridge and the cupboards! Think 'eyes, nose, mouth!'. We used cheese, olives, grapes, apples, raisins, mini m & m's, mandarin oranges, fruit loops. Possibilities are endless.

The Art of Simple Routines

As grandparents we want to make the most of the time we get to spend with our grandchildren.

This does not take elaborate outings or massive funds. I've learned that keeping things simple is best.

A child loves routine and consistency. I am blessed to be able to have my grandchild (age 2) stay with me one night a week.

Each week we take the same walk together, watch the same show, read the same book. He has learned our routine and starts preparing for our evening the minute he comes through the door.

We even cook the same meal each time.

He pulls his special chair into the room and has learned how to set the table for us.

As much as I want to 'mix it up' a bit, I realize he knows what to expect with our time together. I feel that this helps him feel more secure while being away from mommy and daddy.

The Art of Memories

Your grandchild's first birthday is rapidly approaching... you want it to be super special You spend an hour in Target. You research online. He has every toy a 1 year old could possibly have (and plays with empty boxes and pots and pans)..... and a closet full of clothes.

After racking my brain for a week..... I finally came up with the idea of 'birthday letters'. A letter that I write every year.
A few days before his birthday.......I spent about an hour writing a letter to him about 'our' first year together. All the fun things we did... the things that I love about him... the cute things he does. The things that only him and I share. I am his Nana. I can share things with him that no one else can.
I added a small amount of $ (because I know when he gets all these envelopes at his high school graduation he will love it !!)

I decorated a large white envelope with his favorite things, for the smaller envelopes to go in.

I will write a letter each year.. knowing that there will come a time when we spend less time together... so it will be then that I share about MY life and about his mom. ;)
